Questions about VA-owned homes for sale, etc.

Q: How do I find out how to purchase a VA-owned property?

A: Countrywide Home Loans (Countrywide) is VA's service provider who lists and sells VA-acquired property.  You may view their website at https://www.reotrans.com or contact a local real estate broker in the area where you wish to live.

Q: Where can I find lists of VA homes available for sale?

A: The ability to search for VA-acquired property on Countrywide's website is under development.  A dedicated website will be available October 1st that you may use to search for VA properties.

This will bring you to the site where VA-acquired property and a number of Lenders, Institutional Sellers and REO Agents nationwide have properties listed for sale.

Q: Do I have to be a veteran to purchase a VA-owned property?

A: No, all VA properties are available for sale to both veterans and non-veterans.

Q: Will VA finance the purchase of a VA-owned property?

A: Yes, vendee financing (i.e., seller-financing) is available for most, but not all, property sales.  Vendee financing offers very reasonable down payment requirements, and the interest rate is established by VA based on market conditions.  Any prospective purchaser who requests VA financing to purchase a VA-owned property must have sufficient income to meet the loan payments, maintain the property and pay all taxes, insurance, utilities and other obligations, as well as be an acceptable credit risk.  The purchaser must also have enough funds remaining for family support.

Q: How do I apply for vendee financing?

A: You will advise you real estate agent that you wish vendee financing, as well as, request information about vendee financing from him/her.

Q: How do I become a Selling Broker?

A: Interested listing brokers may contact Countrywide at rembrokercommunication@countrywide.com for information on selling VA-acquired properties.
